  2. * SETTING UP THE SAMPLE DATABASE *

  5. The X.500 product has a set of configuration files and a
  6. sample database that you can use to:
  7.  
  8.  *  Verify that the product has been installed correctly,
  9.  
  10.  *  Learn about X.500 features, and
  11.  
  12.  *  Use as a basis for your directory service needs.
  13.  
  14. HP's X.500 Distributed Database contains a sample database
  15. that can be distributed on three nodes.  Included are
  16. complex attributes and multiple subtrees that can be
  17. accessed using the default configuration (only the NSAP for
  18. the default DSA of the DUA must be configured).  Use the
  19. sample database to become familiar with X.500.  The data in
  20. the sample database are not real.
  21.  
  22. This document describes how to configure and use the
  23. database on one node.

  26. SETTING UP THE SAMPLE DATABASE

  29. To set up the sample database, do the following:
  30.  
  31.  1.  Configure the default DUA/DSA node
  32.  
  33.  2.  Create the database
  34.  
  35.  3.  Back up the database
  36.

  38. CONFIGURING THE DEFAULT DUA/DSA NODE
  39. ------------------------------------
  40.  
  41. To configure the default DUA/DSA node, do the following:
  42.  
  43.  1.  Type "x5stop"
  44.  
  45.  2.  Back up or make a copy of the *.conf files
  46.  
  47.  3.  Copy the *.conf1 files over to the *.conf files
  48.  
  49.  4.  Obtain the configured NSAP and its format (hex or
  50.      character) for the network access you require.  For example,
  51.      if your system uses OTS over LAN, obtain the NSAP for LAN.
  52.  
  53.  5.  Type "x5config"
  54.  
  55.  6.  Select "Default DSA for this DUA" from the menu
  56.  
  57.  7.  Enter the NSAP information you obtained into the
  58.      NSelector field
  59.  
  60.  8.  Press the "Perform Task" key
  61.  
  62.  9.  Use the default file name (/usr/lib/x500/conf/x5dua.conf)
  63.      in the Confirmation Form and press the "Done" key
  64.  
  65. 10.  Exit x5config

  68. CREATING THE DATABASE

  71. To create the database,
  72.  
  73.  1.  Type "cd /usr/lib/x500"
  74.  
  75.  2.  Type "x5oper -f conf/x5dibmake.cmd"
  76.  
  77.  3.  When the line "Logged off" displays, press the [Return] key
  78.  
  79.  4.  Type "$exit"
  80.  
  81.  5.  Type "x5start"

  84. the DIB" in the "Managing HP X.500 Distributed Directory"
  85. manual for troubleshooting information.

  88. BACKING UP THE DATABASE

  91. To back up the database,

  93.  *  Type "x5backup"
  94.  
  95. Refer to "Managing the DIB" in the "Managing HP X.500
  96. Distributed Directory" manual for more information.

  99. SAMPLE DATABASE DESCRIPTION

  102. The sample database contains three DSAs:  DSA1 (top-level
  103. DSA), DSA2 (second-level DSA), and DSA3 (second-level DSA).
  104.  
  105. Only one DSA at a time may be active on one system.
  106.  
  107. This document describes DSA1 only.

  113. DSA1 consists of three naming contexts:
  114.  
  115.         /C=GB
  116.         /C=US
  117.         /C=JP
  118.  
  119. where /C is the country attribute type.
